Reading the military map if you already dont know, it is easy, We always remembered by reenlistment nick name REUP  right first then up (right first then read up)

always read the maps from the first part in ah say 8-4 and the base is in the middle of the map. youwuold read right to baout where the base lays in say halfway right of 8-4 you would read that as 8-4 5 then you wouyld look up to see where the up part looks like in line say half way up 5. then the real location would be 8-4, 5,5, would mean if you saw it go to the 8-4 sector then look in middle of map and there is base.

i wanted to try something one day when on ship near a base...

I wanted someone to read me a location to like a VH hanger near a base you cant see on map. then while in ship give me the loacation like above , while in map mode on guns i can see if i click on map location that when i fire 16inch guns see if they land near target. will beat firing many rounds and not getting any hits. would have to enlarge map for great detail on shp clipboard and when your flying ov targe to give exact location. may work. dont see it dont and could do that in ship guns on tank guns firing at hanger with out looking and being seen.. or maybe this is way to much for aces high :ban: ...lol

But it is the first post in training Board.. so i won

I can read a set of blueprints and tell you which Geodetic elevations are higher and lower in two seconds.  I can also scale a set of blueprints with a worn out tape, but you will have to explain that map reading one more time ... and talk slow.

I will get a crayon and try and draw it out.

Using the above gibberish I want you to hit 2,1,  then 5,6 is that correct?

A Basic AH grid picture

grids always start bottom left corner  grid numbers are inside of that square
from right and up from that corner are imaginary lines 0-9 to give coordinates of objects in that square

yellow lines represent  those lines

Red 1 is the start of the square 14-1 Yel X
red 2 you will first read to the right of 14-1 r1 to r2
r2 is almost to halfway point on that line so we will say it is at 4
r3 is the second read UP 14-1 up to about the 3 line
so the black sq is at 14-1,4,3

so you would be told to get Vehicle hanger at 14-1,4,3
first thignyou would pull up map look for 14-1 grid sq then read to the right to 4 then go up 3 and that would be it.. I know kind complicated for AH since it is marked by numbers a34 v66 so forth but for ships it is reall usefull since they do not show up on maps or any formations running NOE below radar and when radar is down and you want help and no icons show up on map

But this is how it is done in military basically

so tell me what the unmarked yellow lines would read...lol test time

hint always read right and up never change that

looking at your map i would say that hanger you have the red x is in the 1.2 square  since all grid numbers are marked inside of grid bottom left hand corner on maps i would read that as 1-2 0,1

2.1 to me is square below and left of that hanger

and all my shell hits are in 3.3 square

14,1,8,7 ish by your method.

or 14,1,9 by other methods using the keypad (10 pad) as reference.  The method you explained would be more precise than dividing the square into 9 sub-sections like most do in AH.  Although using the above method could be a little hard when in the middle of the action.  I could calculate it when I was in the chute free falling  B)

key pad method looks good to. never thought of that since i was trained and used my way... that was why i could not find targets when i was told that way...lol so i just shot at anything red in that square. wonder how AH tells how to read thier map. migh have to go that way if it is written for you all to use key pad 1-9 guess the keypad way is better AH since we dont have any gv arty to use or fixed arty.. military minds are hard to retrain...lol

I was taught back in WB to use the keypad and have always done it that way.

Never knew any other way. Smiley
