My linksys router (befsr41) no longer works properly.  :furious:   I have a cable modem hooked to the router with two computers plugged into it.

It has quit for no apparent reason, and there is no obvious culprit.  The modem works fine with a direct link to the computer.  The cables i use all work in the direct hookup.  So there doesn't appear to be a hardware issue (unless the router is toast)  I have tried resetting the modem and the router with no success.  I have breezed over the troubleshooting section at Linksys with no obvious solutions.  The only other possible clue is the my virus software was not working properly a couple of days ago (PC-cillan) but seems to be fine now, I don't know if this has anything to due with the Linksys or not.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can both of your computers talk to eachother when they're connected to the linksys? if not, the switch is bad on there.

is the router getting dhcp info from the cable box? (ip, dns, gateway, etc)

Make sure dhcp is still enabled on the router (for the LAN, so your computers will get IP's from the router).

If these don't work, I'd say its a good chance that the router is dead.

You could also try upgrading the firmware. you can download newer versions from linksys.

If the 2 computers are communicating thru the router but you can't get online
When you reset the modem how did you do it? 1. turning it off then on. 2. hitting a reset on the modem it's self. 3. to compleatly reset a cable modem you have to unplug the power cord for at least 60 seconds then plug it back in  it will then reset its self.
If that don't work then it probably is the router .
