Greetings Mongrels!

Last night we were tasked to defend 'some town that cannot be pronounced' in Tempests.

Neat thing about Tempests... they fly very fast before wings come off..

Doras don't like planes that fly very fast without wings ripping off.

And, it seems, ahfilm viewer software doesn't want any evidence of how fast Tempests can fly without ripping their wings off..

Attending:

ASADog
Drone
Harppa
JDog
Kansas
TeeRex

Wingmen:
JDog/ASADog
Drone/Kansas
TeeRex/Harppa

We launched from A47 with 100% Fuel and DTs.  ( Drop Tanks.. not side effects from lack of pre-mission brandy )
We climbed to North of the target area then worked our way to the SE.. attaining the hunting altitude of 28,500.

Some thought, that since we were flying as Rooks, we should remain true to the chess piece and take it up to 38,500.. but that was squelched.

We engaged the entire German airforce and their dopplegangers at 25-30,000 feet about a sector SE of the target area.
109s, Doras, and Jabo 190s.

We were quickly separated into our wingmen elements.  Kansas and I lost sight of the rest of the squad as we were tangling with the baddies.

I knocked a few pieces off a 190.. got a hit on another, then raced off chasing a 109 with Kansas close in tow.  Great job sticking with me, Kansas!  Eventually a couple started closing in so we turned around and mixed it up a little bit.

Key note, 'Extensions' are not just for women with self-esteem issues.  They work well with Tempests.

Unfortunately, as I was exercising my Extension rights, Kansas got caught up with a 109 on the deck playing tag..   By the time I could engage, Kansas had expired all of Bernoulli's tolerance and embraced Mother Terra.. hard.

I rapidly extended away and looked for others to hook up with.  At this point TeeRex was the sole survivor so we RTB'd to 47 and refueled.

Our target area was still flashing so we launched with the hope of catching up to the attackers as they RTB'd.  We finally caught a couple 109s and 190s just inside the radar ring of A48.  I pixellated a poor 109 that was slowing down for final.. fellow never knew what hit him.. I think we were close enough to smell what the other 190 and 109 pilots were filling their shorts with as we I blew through them.   TeeRex had fallen a bit behind and after extending again, I whipped around to help clear his six.  With a classic 'Thatch Weave' head on approach I liberated the oil from the 109 that was closest to TeeRex and we subsequently extended from the area, heading back to A47.

As we were slowing down for our approach, our target area started flashing again.

After checking fuel and noticing no damage to our planes, we decided to head back North to engage the attackers.  TeeRex found a lone 109 and got him down to the deck.. and as we chased him around.. his friends caught up to us.

This was about the time I noticed my bag of extensions was empty.

Which was just before I noticed the familiar pattern of the window panes in the tower.
TeeRex joined me soon after.

I don't think it was a bad night, overall..  Not one of the best, but certainly not one of the worst.

Thanks to everybody showing up.  Was good not having to worry about hitting minimums.

I have invited the remnants of the Sick Puppies squad to fly with us when their squad pulls out of FSO next round.. they're suffering very low numbers too.  Muttman is their CO, so keep an eye out for him.

Nice AAR Drone  thumbsup

Upon engagement somehow my wingman managed to lose me, or vice versa  dontknow  As I looped over and went back it looked not so good for him, and at that moment I had roughly 4-5 cons on me.  I managed to use some speed and get out of Dodge, or however you pronounce the name of that town.

I found a Dora, and decided to rollover on him, after some manuvering, I got a quick burst in, and he had a fuel leak, but I had to let him go as it seemed a couple K-4's wanted to play, I find they usually don't play nice so I again extended best I could, and finally had to take it down nearer Mother earth.

Cool thing about a Tempest, nice control in a 500mph dive, I like that in a plane.   The K-4's no longer wanted to play I guess.  I headed back to the city, picked up some alt, and was just minding my own business when a Dora came sliding by.

Apparently he was of the impression that diving away was a good thing to do......Ummmm NOT!!  during the melee I heard constant gun fire, I had what I guess to be 6-8 K-4's, Dora's , and whatever else they could find on my tail.

Another neat thing I learned about a Tempest, it will slow down real fast in a scissors manuver.  I managed to get a couple to overshoot, then I was in the tower.  Never heard a single round hit the plane.....30mm!!  POOF!!

Thanks for the AAR Drone.

As we engaged, JDog was pulling away from me and he rolled left just as I had adjusted to the right. Seeing a 109 closing the distance on JDog’s tail I decided to try to wipe that 109 off of his course. What I didn’t notice was the two or three of the 109’s friends who apparently took offense to my attempt.  JDog hollered out that I had someone on my tail, so I tried to maneuver away, but not well enough and one of their rounds took my right wing off – I made it to the very hard ground real fast after that.

Always a pleasure to fly with you fine folks.
