I'm not familiar with this and I have a few more questions if anyone can answer. Will there be a bunch of arenas or just a few so that you never get to use one due to the vast number of people lining up for them? Will it cost extra to host one? Would you have control over who can join in, for instance just a squad event or a group of friends?
rkanjl I'll try to give a brief summary of what the old H2H use to be and what Dale was talking about at the con.
Use to when you started up Aces High there would be 4 options of game play. 1. Play On line. 2. Practice Offline. 3. Host a H2H. 4. Join a H2H.
The H2H was basically the same as you had/have with the FPS games (COD, Medal of Honor, Battlefield 2 and so on) where you could create a game and have complete control
of it's map (terrain), server setting, and who could be in it.
You could either use an existing terrain, create on your self with the Terrain Editor, or have some one create it for you.
You would then give your H2H session a name and select Host.
It would remain there and players could join it as long as you had your game up and in your hosted arena (H2H session)
Players wanting to join your H2H arena (session) would select the "Join H2H" option, and in that screen it would list all the people hosting
arena's (sessions).
You could make arrangements ahead of time so the people you wanted to join in would know you had it up, or you could let anyone in.
You had complete control of your session, if you had a problem player you could .eject playername them out of your H2H session.
You could enable certain AC, or all AC. you could adjust all the settings of the arena, just like us CM's do in the SEA arena's
for FSO, Snapshots, Scenario's and such.
Basically you where the CM.
This all went away when there started being security issues with the game code from hackers and cheaters, so HTC dropped the Axe on H2H.
What HTC is talking about now is basically having the same thing except the H2H session would be hosted on their servers rather than on your home PC.
He also mentioned that he may raise the player limit above 8 players like the old H2H use to be.
Also the old H2H arenas where free, all you had to do was download the game. There was no need to be a paying customer.
With the new player spawned arena's it will be for Paying Customers only.
So in a nutshell I hope that explains it a little bit for you.
BTW. When this new feature comes out I am willing to help those that wish to learn to create terrains to host in their player spawned arena's,
or consider making one for them.
