Sooo...  we have  a thunderstorm the other night.. and I'm thinking.. "Gee, I have almost a TB of pictures sitting on my newly updated computer that I really should back up.. somehow.. "

Since I had a few more photo projects I had to finish up before committing my machine to moving a lot of data around, I finally had time, this morning, to kick this archiving system off.

The premise sounds good.  Unlimited storage space, online, for $60/year.

I have over 800GB of pics I haven't burned to DVD backups yet, so, this sounds like a perfect venue to preserve my files while I implement a DVD backup strategy.

So, I register and start a 15 day free trial of Carbonite.  I select my files and leave it to do its thing while I head off to work.

Soon afterwards, I get an e-mail confirmation of the uploading process.  It goes on to explain that the initial backup may take a while to complete, as most cable companies restrict data uploads to 3-4GB a day.  !!!???  Oh my...

Thinking that this must be a typo, I go about my merry way with work and all, wondering what what sort of progress will have been reached by the time I get home.

Sure enough, after 9 hours of uploading, it's only managed 2.9GB.. out of 880GB selected.

This may, indeed, take a while..  BangHead

In all reality, I might have to realign my priorities and get the 200 DVDs burned a little sooner than I had planned.

sheesh..

Wow.
Well I know I could not get that kind of speed you have and it would take twice as long. I have thought about doing/using Carbonite fora while, but opted for this solution. At least for now.
I burn all my yearly pictures and videos on to some DVD's. I label and date them and give them to my wife. She stores them at her work in case of some kind of catastrophic fire or something at our home. I have a 2nd copy at home on DVD's and a 3rd copy on external hard drives.
