X-Plane 9 is MASSIVE. This is off the back of the carton:
X-Plane 9 is the most comprehensive and powerful flight simulator available for the personal computer. X-Plane simulates anything that flies: from single-engine fixed-wing props to multi-engine jets; gliders to dirigibles; helicopters to spacecraft to VTOLs, X-Plane 9 simulates them all.
Using blade-element theory, X-Plane 9 accurately simulates the aerodynamic properties of any lifting surface, producing the most realistic flight dynamics available.
Create your own aircraft using the included Plane-Maker tool, or design your own scenery with World-Maker. X-Plane 9 includes over 30 aircraft spanning the aviation industry and history, with hundreds more commercial and user-created planes available for download from the internet.
Features:
-Fly in a full range of weather, including micro bursts.
-Fail over 35 aircraft systems, individually or randomly.
-Test your mettle and land on a moving aircraft carrier.
-Soar in a glider and find thermals to stay aloft.
-Land a commercial airliner during wind sheer conditions.
-Create a high-end simulation rig with included multiple monitor and multi-machine support.
-Engage scenarios and fight forest fires with air-dropped fire retardants, or land a helicopter on an offshore oil rig.
The company that makes it has an FAA approved version that can be used by flight schools for training purposes. When midi says it comes with an entire globe of scenery, he's not kidding. It comes on 6 DVD's and contains 60GB of scenery. You can virtually take off from any airport in the world including the Bismarck, ND airport. You can even file flight plans.
I might have to hit you up for a little setup assistance myself mrmidi if you don't mind. Like I said, I haven't had a lot of time to play around with it but I'm getting that itch if you know what I mean (no, it's not fleas!).
