AD ASTRA PER ASPERA

« on: November 20, 2010, 12:40:35 PM »

Some of you might have heard or read ASA and I shooting the bull about me getting a new Llewellin Setter a few months back during FSO.  Since then I've been looking around the area and state to find one that fits the bill.  A Llewellin is a subspecies of an English setter so, for all intents and purposes, they're the same breed.  Sparky, who passed away last year, was a Llewellin and I swore I'd never own another breed.  They're just that good (and they ain't cheap either).

Anyway a couple of weeks ago the owner of a kennel that I had contacted let me know that they had picked up one that had been abused / neglected and wondered if I'd be interested in him because unfortunately for them but fortunately for me the idiot that owned him had him fixed so they really couldn't use him and he'd never bring a good price based on the current market.  Of course I was interested.  Sadly she didn't want to let him go until she had a chance to get some weight back on and a clean bill of health.

This morning I got up and went and picked up Kojak (after the dog in The Stand).  It's obvious he's been abused because he's still very thin and timid but friendly and, apparently, somewhat house broken.

So, without further ado, meet Kojak Dog Cheesy

Todays pics.. I've spent most of the day trying to make him feel at home and getting him to eat.  He's still wrack thin but no worms according to the vet report.  Finally broke down and mixed grated cheese and an egg with his dog food just to get a little fiber in him.

If anybody has any advice about fattening a dog up in a healthy way I'm all ears.

My dad is a veterinarian. If you want I could ask him some questions. Looks like a very nice dog! Congrats!

I'll keep that in mind OSU and thanks a million in advance.  There will never be another Sparky but I got a good dog.  His personality is coming out by drips and drabs.  Hopefully I can get his confidence up to where it needs to be.  No accidents in the house as of yet, no chewing, and he sleeps through the night.

My Schnauzer though has voiced her displeasure by leaving me a little gift right where I walk in the mornings Wink  I had to 'scold' her but it was hard because I was chuckling.

Dicho,

See if you can find Merrick brand dog food.   Canned and dry are very good.   The canned is very good, and any dog will eat it......heck I would eat it.
