Hey Guy's,

I need your input!  I'm looking at getting into a combat sim and don't know which one to invest in.  I definitely am looking for the most bang for the buck.  I see in Vent that some of you are playing Arma2, Battlefield2, and Battlefield: Bad Co.  Any recommendations?  Also, my stupid question for the day, when I looked at the websites for these games there was no mention of monthly payments.  Do you have to pay for the online experience?

Battlefield: Bad Co 2 is the best out of them all in my opinion....and no you don't have to pay a monthly fee for it.

I'm on 3 or 4 times a week.

Kinda depends what you are looking for in a first person shooter.

Battle Field 2 Bad Company is fun. Graphics are fantastic if you have a rig that can run it high on all the settings. Rounds are only about 10-15 min long at the most. Just about everything in the game is destructible. It REALLY helps to play with a friend or two.
You play that much Midi? I never see you on Vent playing. It is fun, but even the game sounds has swearing/foul language which is totally unnecessary.

ARMA2 is quite a bit different. It is for those who are tacticians at heart. ARMA is more toward the Project Reality Mod from the old Battle Field 2 game. Limited resources. Endless options to plan and play strategist. It is certainly a first person shooter, but the designers who loved planning and strategy added in those elements. ARMA is much slower paced than Bad Company. Might take you a few min to get back into the action. Also the 'feel' of the game is quite a bit different than most other first person shooters. On line play is limited, that is you don't find server that are full with 32 people playing often, but you can play with just you and a buddy against AI so that is a very nice feature.

Battled Field 2 is an old game, but still fun. The Project Reality mod for that is nicely done. I enjoyed that for a couple years along with several squadies. They still update the Project Reality Mod for BF2.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is a game my son just bought a month ago. It like BF2 is fast paced, even more so. A long round for them is about 10 minutes. You are back in the action in moments. Easy to kill and easy to die. Graphic are nice, but objects/buildings and such are not destroyable. Lots of game features or elements that are not realistic, pretty gamy in my opinin but are enjoyed by the younger generation.

I play Bad Company a couple times a week. Would play or try ARMA more if someone was around that was playing too.

BF Bad Company is what I play.  I don't like the foul language in offline/campaign play but the online play is fast and by just playing hard core servers, you don't get frustrated at emptying a clip into a person before they die, on the other hand some nights you are the fish in the barrel and die quickly to those one shot kills.

BF2 is what I played before I picked up BFBC, didn't look back.

I tried World War 2 online for a while, If memory serves it's $15 a month. Only 1 server with a continuous campaign going on.
It's not a bad game but i play Aces High and Fallen Earth, both have  $15 a month subscription and FE being a MMORPG is a time sink so i stopped playing WW2o.

WW2 being a persistent online game can suffer the same problems as AH in finding a fight at off peak times and unless you have sufficient rank you cannot make a mission. Which means you either have to switch sides or switch from army to navy or airforce to be able to do anything. Unlike AH you can't just jump in game and look for a fight.

Daddog, was that BF bad company you added onto the dvd this year? That did look interesting.

Thanks for the good intel gents!  Sounds to me like Battlefield Bad Co. 2 is a no brainer!  Hang in there Daddog, I'm still seriously considering Arma 2 as well!  Might have to see if I can finagle both!?
