I turned off the automatic updates as I have had one that will not install for days.
I went to the Microsoft site directly to install it manually. It poped up, but when I read the details it said this.

Download size: 0 KB , 0 minutes  (Downloaded; ready to install)
A security issue has been identified in Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

How can you install/need something that is 0 KB? Why does it even come up?

Thats why one of the very first things I do is turn off automatic updates.
First for the OS, then for most software.

Only my antivirus is allowed to update, and only when I say it can.

But then I guess I'm a control freak.

Ya, I just finally told it to ignore that particular update.  argue  occasion14
