The HD I want to mount inside my system is currently hooked up and is sitting out side my case. It is an older Maxtor Sata drive. I have noticed that it is very hot. Not too hot to pick up, but would I would say VERY warm. A few more degrees and it would be too hot to pick up. Do they normally get that hot?

Daddog its been my experience that when SATA drives start feeling hot, its time to lose them.
Grab the data off it quick, and pull it out of the system.

You've been warned, what you do with it is up to you.
I've seen SATA drives that felt like they'd burn you if you picked one up.

Save for a new drive, lose the old slow ones.
Keep it around for troubleshooting if you want.

Can even have one with XP installed on it ready to drop into any system needed.
Just don't plan on running it for long or with important data.

Ok sounds good. It is an old drive. About 5 years I would guess.
