What goes on in the Axis versus Allies server? It always seems empty.

mostly politics Tongue

sorry, couldn't resist.  Some good sticks fly in there or used to until a certain squad of griefers made it their home.  Since then the AvA is pretty much dead.  They get some interest when they run their war campaigns, but again the political griefers just ruin it.

I like to fly in their when oldman and a few of the regulars were in there, nice low fights, quick action, not worried about land grab, etc.  Then some squads thought it would be fun to milk the arena and cause all sorts of grief.  Drove most of the casual AvA players out.

Granted this is my opinion and I have set foot in the AvA in quiet a while, but if you take a gander at the BBS forum for them @ HTC you'll see the large helping of egos and grief'ing mentality.  Those same big talkers are the ones who've cause serious damage to the AvA.  The same squad tried it with the FSO, but found out in a hurry the Special Events Arena is a different beast.  CMs have some teeth in the SEA.

forHIM pretty much spelled it out.

A bunch of good sticks who were ego driven pretty much has ruined the AVA over the years. Some I got along with others I did not. I was on the AVA staff for a year and gave up on it when I saw it was going to be impossible to change. I actually flew in the AVA for the first time in months just last week with middog and Easyscor and had a good time.

If I was "king" of HTC I would actually close the AVA and then with a select few redesign it to loosely model events, but then reopen it (with another name) every evening at specific times that would be monitored by AVA staff. It would be IMHO greatly improve the atmosphere and help erase the ugly history that goes with the AVA.

My thoughts exactly daddog. If HTC would claim ownership, take control of the situation and with a little effort they could create an excellent historically based arena. Honestly, I'm very surprised they haven't done that a long time ago. There's no doubt the player base exists to support such an arena.

If you read the AvA BBS mal, don't look to closely because you'll probably see my name in there  embarassed I admit it, I fly in there on a semi regular basis. A whole week is just to long without flying some historical plane match ups. P-51 vs. Spit vs. Yak vs. P-38.....I just can't take it!  icon_biggrin There, now I feel better.

At any rate, the AvA as it now is just a dueling arena with historical terrains and theatre specific plane sets. If you're addicted to historically based flying like me, you'll end up there eventually. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with it.

One of the many consequences to keeping HTC a small company is that they all 'always' have very full plates. They IMHO don't have time to deal with, a redesign, then manage, and run the AVA or a historical arena as it should be. It needs to be completely overhauled. I wish I had more time on my hands....

I don't have any experience with the old AH H2H arenas. Were they similar to a hyper lobby server in IL-2? If so, and HTC begins offering H2H server space perhaps someone will set up a decent historical arena. Could someone give me a quick run down of how the old H2H arenas worked and what could be done with one?

I love flying the FSO, and i would like to see some kind of server, similar to WWII online, where the battle for the map lasts a number of weeks and has historical matchups for each side.

Read your way through this thread malap and you'll be on your way to understanding.

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,260337.0.html

AvA has always had a lot of very opinionated people who are more than willing to tell you what you can and can't do, fly, etc.
While thats ok to a point for teaching new people, it gets old very quickly.

I used to try to fly in there but just gave it up. The ego's just never quit.
Always someone whining about something.
Frankly I'd like to see HTC shut it down and try something totally different.

Well i tried AvA during the week, there were just 8 people in, even split. The other Allies seemed to be just sightseeing. I engaged a 109 and fell victim to some good wingman tactics LOL. After a couple of sorties i gave up, the allies didn't seem interested in fighting and the Axis were too well organised LOL.

Agreed. I'd like to see HTC shut down the AvA and Early War main and substitute an arena with historical terrains, theatre specific rolling plane sets, an Axis/Allied split and more difficult settings (lower icons distances, etc.). I'd also like to see them change the Mid War main to a rolling plane set that covered the entire war.

Sometimes it makes think about sneaking back into the Warbirds WWII arena  nono
