*When installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows® 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended.

So can't we install more than 3 gigs in an XP system? Or does it simply mean I need a copy of XP 64 bit to make use of 4+ gig of memory?

If you put 4 gig of ram in a system, and run XP 32 bit for an operating system, yes, it will only see a bit over 3gb of it.

One of the few things that vista does right IMO.

Now I know I tend to get by on a lot less Ram than a lot of you.
But I don't think I've ever been slowed down significantly in game or out by having only 2 gig of ram onboard.

I am currently building myself a new system, i plan on using 64 bit Vista. ATM i have 4 Gigs of ram installed but the MB supports 8 Gigs.

Should i install the whole 8 Gigs?

Eight is a lot, but it can't hurt. I heard that Vista uses up 2 gigs just to run smoothly. I would think 4 would be fine. Smiley

Wow, i looked on Tiger direct and 4 more Gig of RAM was only $35, toothy9 so i ordered it along with Vista 64 bit OEM and 2 Seagate Barracuda7200.11 750 Gig HD.

I will be running them in RAID 0 for speed  icon_biggrin

I just need a power supply to finish the system, that will have to wait a couple of weeks.

After that i want to upgrade my 19" LCD monitor to a larger widescreen LCD.
