About the nits

In case any of you see my thread in the AH board, don't worry...there's no danger of stepping away from the Mongrels.

And for those of you who haven't seen it and are really confused right now, here's what's going on. Apparently there's a group of Nits who are very into the Alliance missions (which is great) and who are also antagonizing people who aren't into the missions (which is not so great). Last night the Knights were clearly outnumbered, and several of the "play for fun" squads that migrate to the lower side came over to fly with us. They were mixing it up down low, just getting into shooting stuff down, when a crowd of misshunz kidz started hammering them for being "spies." I tried to point out that these players don't CARE about base captures, and always switch sides to help the lower numbered countries, but it didn't seem to get through. I logged off shortly after the discussion started, but apparently it kept going long enough that fun was spoiled.

For reasons that are completely unclear to me, the gang seems to have latched on to Guppy/Dan as a major bad guy. They were yammering at him unmercifully with the spy stuff, despite his efforts to explain. The "spy" blather was apparently bad enough that Dan went on the BBS to suggest that squads which switch for balance simply avoid the Knights completely, to avoid the spy accusations and to show the Roxians that they've been missing the point.

Now, I've never met Dan, and I've not really talked with him outside of text buffers and BBS threads. But every single time I've come across him he's always been a gentleman, and he clearly has his priorities straight in knowing that AH is just a game. Losing two kids (like Dan has) will remind you of that...

So I can't stand that anyone is picking on a guy who's lived through that, especially when the bullies simply have no clue. (No clue about the game, the subtypes of players, the ultimate futility of "winning" a map that resets immediately, and especially no clue about how little "winning" means to people who have suffered like Dan has.) So if those lemming-like players have driven away Dan, and the 80th FS, and the rest of the guys who fly for whoever needs them -- then I'm not going to do anything that even indirectly helps the lemmings reach their goals. Their behavior has made me mad enough that when they are on, I'm not going to fly Knights.

I don't expect this brouhaha to last long, since I hope they'll get the point soon. And I don't expect my position will affect Mongrels at all, since most of the MA Mongrels have moved on, gone on hiatus (like Bison), or gotten into time consuming teams (like the CM team and terrain team).

So anyway, that's where I'm coming from. It has nothing to do with the Mongrels...it probably comes down to the part of me that wants to stand up for people who get bullied.
