OK, got a new (old) computer from work and I need to uninstall windows and install my copy of XP. I can't get past the login screen so how do I uninstall it. Is it as simple as C:\format or can I do it from dos?

Boot from the CD.  You can make the computer boot from CD in the BIOS (usually F2 or F10 on POST, when it first starts up).

Once you start to setup it will give you the option of re-formatting the system drive/partition.  Do that instead of trying to install over the top of an existing Windows installation.
