This is a great addition to the forum. I thought I would break the ice and post an inventory of my collection. I hope you shooters will also post yours.
Hunting stock:
700 Remington, (custom) 375 H&H Mag left hand 700 Remington (custom) 7x57 (7mm Mauser) left hand 700 Remington (factory) 300 Winchester Magnum left hand FN Mauser in 7x57 right hand (belonged to my dad, now belongs to my son Jeff) Remington 870 12ga. left hand (this is my duck blind gun, not fancy but very functional) Remington 870 12ga. right hand (my son's gun) Remington 1100 TA Trap left hand (from my competition trap shooting days) Remingon (Spartan) 12ga. over under field shotgun (we have two of these, one is my son's) Ithica Mag 10 autoloader. 10ga. autoloading shotgun. Before the steel shot era, I could make it "rain" geese with this baby. Marlin model 39 lever action .22 rifle.
War rifle collection: Springfield M1 Garand (I have 2, both CMP rebuilds, both made late 40's). Springfield 1903 (made in 1925) Craftmanship at its finest. Remington 1903-A3. Due to war time production, many corners were cut on the "A-3" version K98 German Mauser (8mm). Russian capture rebuild, not rare, but with iron eagles and swastikas. K31 Swiss (I have 3, 2 have the original soldier tags under the buttplate) These are built like a swiss watch. Very fine craftmanship. Russian SKS, 1953 model from Tula Armory. This is a rare one, and in MINT condition. Looks unissued. 100% matching numbers. Mosin Nagant model 1891 Tula Armory. MINT, looks unissued. 100% matching numbers.
Home protection/plinking, etc Ruger SP101 357 mag revolver. (stainless) Ruger MkII .22 pistol (my son's first "real" gun. Got it for him when he turned 10) Remington 870 left hand "ally sweeper" tactical shotgun. Custom rebuild by "Wilson Combat"
There you have it... I think I listed them all. I am way past the point of needing another safe, but I just don't have the room. I need a bigger house so I can buy a bigger safe, so I can buy more guns. Is that wrong...?

Well I grew up in the flatlands of the Red River Valley. Too settled by too many people for rifles. Deer hunting was all done with shotgun's and slugs. So I've always gotten into the shotguns more.
Ruger 10/22 for plinking,I did drop a nice 3-9 variable scope on it. Ask tank he's seen it. If I can hold it steady the gun is fully capable of driving golfballs at 100 yards. Deadly for squirrels, rabbits etc.
I have 3 shotguns. All Remington 870 models, in 20, 16, and 12 ga. 20ga was my first real shotgun, and has a cut down stock (from when I was a little guy) This is still my prefered slug gun.
16 ga is a hand me down from my grandfathers brother in law. We used to sit and fish together. He was in his late 60's, I was 6. When he died he had specified that I was to have his favorite duck gun. Its an early model with no rib on the barrel. Lots of use, worn blueing, etc. But smooth as watered silk.
12 ga is a 30" barrel trap model with twin beads. Extra high comb on stock, high rib, long barrel with full choke. This one has helped me drop many a goose & duck. And it has busted its share of clay pidgeons. It currently sits just out of sight behind the bedroom door loaded but with the chamber open. My daughter has only seen it once, at 2am when she said she wasn't going to be home. But came home after all, and started rattling pots in the kitchen in the dark. Scared the crap out of both of us.
I'm not much into pistols but I do have a cheap .22 revolver for messing around with.
My guns have mostly all been doing nothing but gather dust since I got married. Although I do get the .22 out every other year or so and run some rounds through it.

I have: Smith and Wesson .45 (Was Kieth's side arm when he was a sheriff). Ruger .22 long rifle Mark II pistol Ruger Model 10/22 Carbine Sherdan pellet gun Mossburg 12 gage shotgun Marlin 30/30 level action I have never shot the 30/30. I bought it with Keith not long before he died and we never took it out to site it in. One day I will. When I have the $ I want to buy a small hand gun for Gloria.

Man,
I don't have a gun anymore, well a CO2 pellet pistol, but that doesn't count. About 15 years ago they made it so difficult to own a gun,had to register, give up search and siezure rights. I wasn't willing to allow the police to enter my house,W/O warrant, just to see if I had my gun(s) stored safely.
I did have a few guns, years ago, A 22 250,great for groundhogs,A 22 semi,Mossburg 500 12 gauge and my fav was a JC Higgins 22 semi with bull barrel. The Higgins was old but real sweet.

Wow a lot of you guys have guns, why's that? I've never owned a gun but shot expert 9MM and M-16 in the Coast Guard. I enjoy shooting guns, but see no need to own one, since I don't hunt and don't live in downtown Detroit... Of course, if things went downhill in the US in a hurry I would probably arm up.

Wow a lot of you guys have guns, why's that? I hunt, that's the primary reason I own guns. The second reason is I enjoy sporting clays so that's why I have the over/under shotgun. I grew up hunting and lived on mostly wild game since I was born. My dad either shot or caught most of the meat we ate. We did raise hogs and steers, but those usually ended up on other peoples plates and the money went to support us and growing our college funds.

Like forhim I used to hunt a lot. Since I got married I hung my guns up, just don't have the $$$, the time, or the energy anymore. However a good gun is like an investment. They don't go down in value as long as you take care of them. They go up.

Wow a lot of you guys have guns, why's that? Was born in L.A. Never touched a gun till I was 12. My dad never owned a gun, nor my mom. When I was 12 I went up into the hills with my friend Keith Gray and his family. His dad gave us both these sad looking BB guns to plunk around with. Gave us a firm warning that if we shot at each other or at anyone else we would regret it. My eyes were about that big. For the first year I had that BB gun and went with the Gray's just about ever time they went up to their property. About 65 acres in the North Fork area above Fresno. Very rural. It was a single shot BB gun that had a range of about 20 yards. You could see the BB come out and bounce off a paper bag. LOL Keith was already using a pump pellet gun. After a year or so they moved me up to a pump BB gun, then to a pump pellet gun. By then Keith was using a single shot .22. When I was 15 or so I was informed if I wanted to go quail hunting I needed to take the hunters safety course which I did. Not long after that I was allowed to use a single shot 20 gage and went quail hunting when they did. They went hunting several times a year. I was 20 or so when I bought my first shot gun. Hunted a lot of quail, dove, and other foul for many years with Keith and on my own. Just grew to really enjoy hunting. The .45 I bought from Keith when I started my family because I wanted something for home protection. The 30/30 because I wanted to try wild pig hunting, but never did because the goof went and got cancer and died on me. The .22's are just for fun to plink around with and shoot an occasional rat off the phone wires. Also guns unlike cars are actually a pretty good investment. In that they don't lose their value over time.

S&W M41 in .22 LR S&W M17 in .22 LR North American Arms in .22 LR That’s 37 of them that I can remember, and I’m sure there’s one or two that I’ve missed. Why so many? I collect, I teach, I hunt, I shoot, I do "Historical Re-enactments”, and most of them fill one or more “nich” within these activities. A few I have because they are family guns passed on to me. A couple I bought for my daughters use (they’re “sized” for smaller shooters). In Pursuit,

That Krag was a sweet purchase! I was at a gunshow about five years ago looking for some inexpensive tools I wanted and to browse. I had no intent to buy any firearms. Now, I had for long wanted a clean Krag Carbine, but the ones I had found were either too beat up, too sporterized, or too expensive if they were in good original condition. Sitting in a "Consignment" rack was this Krag Carbine in nearly arsenal fresh condition. The upper hand guard was missing, the original rear sight had been removed, but a 100 year old Lyman adjustable "peep" sight had been professionally added. Otherwise this gun looked like it had been sitting untouched in an armory since 1898! The owner wanted $375 for it! I tried not to appear too eager as I pulled out my debit card. I don't have a good picture of it, but here is one where I include it with the Schofield I have: The Pennsylvania Rifle is a flinter; my other two are percussion. I've been involved with BP muzzle loaders for over 30 years. I used to be a plant manager for Kimber of America. Kimber had purchased several hundred Swedish Mausers for rework into sporting rifles. As the plant manager I was able to go through them as they arrived, and I picked out two for myself before they were modified; a carbine and a full rifle. I eventually sold the carbine, but kept the rifle. My greatgrandfather had been a member of the Royal Guard for the Queen of Sweden, and this rifle would have been of the same version/era that he might have been issued; so I kept this one as representative of what could have been his. My uncle was my father figure as I grew up and he had quite a collection of guns. One was an original 30-40 Krag. I used to love taking it out of the gun case. It felt different to hold. Since my uncle had explained this was a real "war" rifle, I just couldn't keep my hands off it. I was 25 years old when my uncle passed. It was some years later that I contacted my uncle's only son (cousin John) to inquire about the Krag. I was heart broken to learn that John sold all the guns including the Krag. I have been on the hunt for one every since for my collection, not only becasue its such a cool rifle, but for the sentimental value it brings.
What is it about sticks and iron that makes some of us crazy?

Ya bunch of gun nuts!!! Oh, here's my collection: M1 Carbine Mosin Nagant 91/30 Mosin Nagant M38 Yugo 24/47 Mauser Enfield No.4Mk.I Swiss K31 (dang accurate) Springfield 03/A3 Savage 93R17 (.17HMR) Ruger 10/22 SU-16CA Yugo M59 SKS Remington 870 Remington 1100 Makarov (duh!) Beretta 92 Taurus .357 EAA Witness .45 Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail .45 (beaut!) As to the question, "why so many or why have one at all?" Well, because I enjoy it. I've always enjoyed the shooting sports. For years I only had a rifle and two pistols. I then started to purchase historic WWII rifles and that really got me back into the sport. I have four rifles all made in 1943, which is cool to me for a historical aspect. My collection has grown a lot in the past several years. I also enjoy reloading for many of the larger caliber military rifles. Both for cheaper ammo and to make more accurate rounds. It's nice to see so many others in the Mongrels who also enjoy shooting...which is a nice right to still have. ASAdog and HeavyH, you both have very nice collections!

What make is your carbine? I want one badly, and had one on order through CMP but ended up cancelling the order for now. I decided to hold out for a Winchester, which CMP will release in a few months. I haven't fired my K31's yet, but I have a lot of ammo. Did you check for the tag under the buttplate? What about that 38, is it a Tula? I want a 44 Tula, and a Tula 38 if they were ever made there. I just recently became interested in the Russian war stuff and haven't researched them much.
Lets get some pics posted!!!!

I'm thinking about getting an M1 Carbine. I owned a couple of the Universal copies in the past, and I borrowed a friends Korean War era issue one (don't remember the actual manufacturer) for hunting Javalina and Coyote when I was in AZ. They're just so handy and fun to shoot, plus with the proper loadings I'm willing to accept them for under 100 yd "social" problems (aka "Short range interpersonal crises management").
I'll probably cheat and get one of the new AutoOrd ones rather than a collector though.

The M1 Carbine is a civilian Universal model. I would like to eventually have a WWII era one, but for now the Universal one has been fun and reliable. It was free from an uncle so I can't complain. The Mosin's are both Izvesk made. Both are in good condition and are capable shooters. Love the boom and flame on the M38. I've been reloading some nice rounds for the K31. That thing really is made to a higher standard than most military arms. Those good old Swiss! Mine did have the soldier's nametag under the buttplate. A neat part of history.

I used to have a friend with a M1 carbine, I've hunted Jack Rabbits with it several times. Out to 200 yards a decent shot with that peep sight dropping a Jack with a single shot was no problem. We had lots of them back then, so we'd often shoot 10-20 and bring them back. Hind legs went to people food, rest was turned into cat food.

My son turns 13 in 2 months and I purchased a safe about 5 months ago. My back has finally recovered from getting it out of the truck and into the basement with my old buddy who did 2 tours in Nam on Swift Boats. He was hell back then but is now lacking in the muscle dept. I do a lot of hunting, so here goes... Remington 700 BDL .270 Left Handed Browning .22 Winchester Model 120 Pump 12 gauge Ruger #1 .375 H&H Ruger Single Six Covertible H&K USP .45 Smith & Wesson Model 29

Where are you at Cajun? City/State?
Funny you mention that. Sondog turned 13 this past summer and just yesterday he came up to me and asked, "Papa when could I own a gun?". I was kinda surprised by this because I don't go out much and do any shooting. I thought about it and told him I would expect him to take a hunter safty course and then at the local gun club they have a 6 week .22 course. I figured with those in his back pocket he could save up and get one. I told him he could keep it in his room, but the ammo would stay separate in my room locked away. I keep a couple loaded guns near my bed side, but I am not about let any of my kids do that. Other thoughts guys? What would be your prerequisites for your son to own a gun?
