Here's my latest project photo gallery, in mostly chronological order.

Looks good d0gma!

What are your plans for the engine? Straight rebuild or mod? I've been toying with the idea of  putting a Mazda Miata engine in the MGA. I found a guy in England who's done it and it looks very nice. Plus doubling the HP is always a good thing icon_biggrin.

Hey Eric, I haven't torn down the engine yet so not sure... the engine is a 67 hi-compression 5 main motor, so if it's not too worn out I will rebuild it stock with twin SU's and just let it be. If it's hosed I may try to find a nice DOHC Nissan or Toyota motor to put in it with a 5 speed... maybe if I can find a wrecked 240SX or Supra, I might go for FI turbo...

No telling, I'm still messing up the paint right now.  Shot the doors and trunk today in clear and did a terrible job, I'll be sanding that crap off for a week.  Live and learn.

There's a guy on Youtube that put a Jap Supra turbo engine in his MGBGT, it outruns C5 Vettes and superbikes... really impressive.  Look up 'spooledmgbgt' on  youtube for vid of him hosing said C5 and bikes.

confused2 I can put air in the tires, change the oil, and put some water in the radiator, but that is the limit of my skills when it comes to working on cars.  occasion14

How long would a project like that take? Couple years?

I've been working on it since last January, and I hope to have it done by Christmas this year.

My last project, a Jensen Interceptor, took me about 5 years... but it's a much more complicated car than this one.

Dogma,
Are you doing all the paint work at home? That would be quite a trick getting a good coat without any dust.

Yep, doing it in the garage. I've settled for "some dust", which will buff out of the clear coat.  I've got 3 coats of clear on the trunk and doors and will be putting the final coat on the hood and 2 on the body soon.  It helps that I've got a friend with 20 years autobody experience to show me how to do stuff, but stiil, it's been a trying experience.  My arms are sore as heck and I don't have any fingerprints left from all the wetsanding I've been doing.

I'm looking forward to being done with the paintwork and moving on to the next mini project (the windshield rebuild).

Do not go with the 2JZ, if you don't plan on spending 10k+.

In my opinion, if you want to make that car put down some serious power... look into the 4G63T.

I can actually build you one, that can hand about 900HP, and put down the same numbers, with a nice snail on that bad boy.

GT42R, pushing around 44 pounds... that would easily be a 800+HP car.

That's the Mitsu Eclipse motor, right?  What RWD transmission would bolt up to that?

Yes, you need to actually buy a plate... but those motors are the best 4 Cylinders that you can build.  Buschur Racing sells a plate, that you can bolt up a T-56 or a GM UltraGlide.

When Mitsu made this motor, they had no idea of the power that it could put down.  You can build these things for about 3,500 dollars.  For a full longblock and with a decent setup on your turbo, Sheet Metal Intake, and AEM Standalone - put down some serious power.

There are the two best shops in this area from DSMs(Diamond Star Motorsports... The 4G63 basicly.)  They would be:

www.buschurracing.com
www.shearerfab.com

In the Buschur Racing - is the place to call for your car.  That could would easily be a highway monster.

I work at Shearer Fabrication, we have a 93 Dodge Colt, that puts down 871 Horsepower, and its front wheel drive.  It runs 8.90s @ 190s.  I have had quite afew of built DSMs, I will post pictures.  I actually now, have a Turbo Hayabusa ;]

Also, if you can get an AWD DSM... which is an Eagle Talon TSI or an Eclipse.  Try to take out the drive train, and put it in your little car.  That thing would be amazing to launch as an AWD.
