Was checking into AH training schedule, and since not much on the calendar at their site, I asked about it on the Help and Trainng forum. And, well, Rolex asked if there was something in particular I was interested in. Now, since I'm genetically incapable of keeping things simple, it occured to me that there might be some interest in working on a squad level -- especially since the A and B flight concept is in place. I remember the lag roll workshop that Ghosth and DD set up was a major help, and a lot of fun. December is a busy time, and even if we try to get this going it might not be right away. But I know I for one would love some work on quality wingman tactics and on multi-con management.

(Seems like when I'm winging I manage to lose my wingman more than half the time.

Not that he dies, just that I have absolutely no idea where the heck he went to, or how I got so far away from him, or - now that you mention it -- where the rest of the squad went. Which of course means that I'm the one getting lost...)

Anyway, is anyone else in the mood for this kind of thing? Pop in a reply if you are, and if the interest is there I'll get back to Rolex and Co.

We have a Friday off in three weeks. That would be a good time.

I would really like to see efforts on some wingman tactics going our way. 2 vs 1. A few months ago some of us did the P-40 VS the A6M5. I dumped the cannon in the A6M5 and the pairs worked together forcing me off the six of the other. An hour or more of that would do a lot of good IMHO.

Open to other suggestions.

DD,

I think to make that work we need to have 8 to 10 guys on one side with 5 or 6 on the other to simulate the confusion of two squads hitting each other.  That's usually when I loose my wingman.

I hear what you are saying forHIM, but we have to learn to walk before we can run. I think quite a few guys have a hard time telling their wingman what to do in a 2 vs 1. Just does not come natural to each other. We could do it that way I suppose... maybe it would be better that way so make it seem more like a squad vs squad encounter. Humm...

I know the trainers...widewing in particular...have a specific workshop to teach people HOW to work together. They teach the "loose deuce" approach, which I think is the most practical and effective way for a team to work together. I'd much prefer having some formal instruction, with practice, before we go with a big rumble. IMHO.

Well, it looks like this may actually happen!

Tentatively, Rolex is trying to get things set up for what amounts to our Wed Squad Night! Here's the message he sent me:

Quote
Howdy,

Let me see if I can set up a session for next week: Wed 12th @ 10pm EST. If not, then the following Wednesday. I'll post something on the BBS and let you know when I do.

Cheers!

I'm sending email notification around the pound, so we'll see how many are interested and can make it.

Tell you the truth -- when you really sync with a wingman it makes you more than twice as good as you are on your own. In AH, true wingman work is rare enough that if we polish this skill, we'll start looking way better than we are individually!

Plus, it's plain fun to have a good 2 man team working. Effective winging is one of the biggest rushes in the game for me, and I have a feeling that once we all get on the same page we'll have a few other addicts around....

Looks like it will be a public wingman training session. I saw a post in the General forum about it. I thought it was going to be just for our squad.

No big deal, but I will suggest you guys try to wing with each other as opposed to someone outside our squad since your own squad mates are the guys you will most likely wing with in the future.

Yeah, it wasn't what I expected either...but it's the trainers'  time to spend, so I can understand them wanting to have the biggest turnout possible.

On the other hand, I'm making a point of not posting in those threads  evil

A lot depends on the timing.  If I am off then I am more than happy to join in, I do need the help.

It went well except for Bison's computer glitches. I reconized most everything Rolex was talking about from the TOPGUN manuel. It's a lttle different trying to fly the manuevers than just tell pilots to do it from an air controllers point of view. The session was recorded and will be posted on the forums.  icon_salut

Glad you recorded it!

I could only stay for the first hour, but I could see there was a lot of potential gold in them thar hills. I started an AAR thread to put some of the principles in words...so if anyone has anything to add, by all means do!
