I was the only Mongrel to fly the snapshot last night.  Was OK, sorta fun.  Objective was to bomb a VBase in JU88's, with c.205 cover.  Allies were all in P-38Js.  Approximately 40 players in all (low turnouts these days).  I flew buff with Roscoroo and some others I didn't know.

Bombers lifted and went to 10K with a large cover of 205's at 15K.  Approximately 2/3 sector from target swarmed by 38's.  The 205's were out of position and basically the 38's blew by them and went after us. I got swarmed by about 5 38's right at my IP to the bomb run and totally missed all my targets, 2 of my drones died before I dumped my bombs.  After I ran out of BB's I zoomed to the deck and exited area with no chasers.

I got 4 assists, including the 38 that got my drones, and one kill.  Got a pilot wound, dead gun and no rudder.  Limped home, passed out 10 feet off the ground and ended up landing safely.

Those JU-88s aren't as wimpy as you think. We were putting out pretty formidable fields of crossfire and hurting the 38's pretty bad.

The funniest part was the initial merges with the 38s, they were SUPER high and half of them were compressing badly by the time they got down to 10K, watching them zoom by at 500 mph, totally out of control was pretty funny.

Frame started late and I went to bed, missed the 2nd frame.

At least they weren't taking off from CV's Wink

The funny thing is that the 205's got eaten alive by the 38's... the JU88's were better equipped to deal with them, but we got jumped right over the IP so it was a choice of bomb or fight.

The P-38 has a certain following. If you just had a couple good P-38 sticks it could make a huge difference.
