Several people have asked me over the years which sight I use.
Like everything else about flying in AH it does evolve over time.

However I am very much enjoying this little gem right now.
Warning, if you save this directly to your AH/sights file this will be the default sight
for all planes. Should be able to right click, save as, and point it to your AH directory/sights.
(default install location is c:/programfiles/HTC/AcesHighII/sights.

ps the pink goes transparent in the game.

Had a request last nightfor the ostwind sight I use, so I'm going to boot this up.

And the B25H gunsight that I built when it came out.
(which would also make a fair ostwind sight btw)

I, like ghosth, have used a simple green dot for all my planes for at least 3 years now.  I find that I typically concentrate on where the other person is instead of trying to line up my sight on them.  The only problem I have is when i change resolution or monitors I have to relearn the feel.

Dive bombing has always been a hit or miss for me.  If I don't do it for a while I tend to over estimate the drop point and hit long, but then again I try to come in at as close to 90 degrees as I can.

I've kept it simple at the cost of realism, too. Since starting TrackIR, I'm switching everything over to the US Navy 6N sight (I forget the exact name) which consists of a simple ring and dot, with a second bmp file for that cool "alpha" glow. I've resized the ring for a few planes so it actually shows the wingspan of a fighter at 400 yards, which can be helpful in judging lead.

Comlpetely agree that when you're trying to learn gunnery the WORST thing you can do is to let your vision forcus on the sight. I force myself to center vision on the target, and pay attention to the pipper out of peripheral vision.

With TIR, having the ring REALLY helps me get the sight back into the reflector when my head positioni is out of line. With only a dot, I can be bopping all over the place hunting for the sight/ glass alignment when I should be concentrating on the shot!

BTW -- I've been doing a lot of gunnery practice this month, and I've come up with a few routines that have helped me immensely, more than practice ever has before. They've been incredibly effective in programming my brain to see the deflection, so that I am now getting explosive kills on drones at 400-600 pretty often...and my hit % has reached levels I've never thought possible. I've gone from about 4% (which is pretty low for me historically -- usually around 6%0 ...to this month's sustained rate of about 11%. Never dreamed I could get there...even when logging time practicing in the past I'd get no higher than 8%. I'll put together a description and some films, any you guys can tell me what you think.

B25h fans, the link above still works.

  *   Center dot is for inside 600 yards.
  -   Single dash is the 1k mark
* *  2 dots are the 2k mark
*!*  The 2 dots with the vert line between are the 3k line.

The bottom of the vertical line is roughly the 4k mark.

All at sea level, roughly level. Practice helps for learning how big the ships look at the 4k point.
Even if you miss with the first shot, the next one should be just under the 3k line.
Seems most runs I get 7 - 9 shots off starting at 4k.
On a good run you'll get 6 - 8 hits, and of course once inside the 1k mark
open up with the mg's for even more punch.

Works well on all soft ground targets, thin skinned ground vehicles, and ships.

Flushed, help yourself to any or all.
I'm a firm believer in the dot sight.

Let me know how it looks in the corsair. That has a much bigger gunsight. So I might have to scale it down a smidgeon.

I don't think there is a sight for that. It takes a lot of practice. You can got to the TA and the smart sight (the little green crosshairs when you select your bombs) that'll give you a sight picture. I made a short film and how I do a dive bombing in an F6F may not be how a pro would do it but it works for me. I think it is here.

Repetition is the key, the problem with a sight for jabo work is that there are so many variables.
Altitude, speed, angle, all drastically influence where that bomb is going to go.

Start with the plane you use most often. Learn what the sight picture looks like from a standard approach.
Say 8k up, and using the dive angle you prefer. (Me I like 45 degrees, but some prefer 70 - 90)
Learn what that sight picture will look like as you cross through the 2k drop/pullout point.

Then you do the same for a low 2,3,4th pass approach. 2k, flatter dive, lower speed.

In the TA in the bombing range the fields are elevated. Plus if you use the correct spawn you can get an airstart, which will put you over the target at alt. Both can save you a lot of time, letting you get more eggs on target in a half hour.

Give me a shout if you need help.

Thanks Flushed/Ghosth...Ive been working on the site picture in the F4U, starting from ~8K. Gotten better, but still not as dependable as rockets. I love rockets. Guess Ill just keeping workin on it.

You have any films Ghosth? Haven't checked the main forums, I'm guessing folks had to have posted some from time to time.
