Any suggestions on breaking the old habits while converting from a twisty to an X45?

I aplogize to the guys that were on last night.  I was sucking and was in no mood for radio chatter.  Heard you guys, just wasn't flying well and didn't want to vent the stupidness I was doing on the radio.

I am hoping this is just a training issue, but I could not stick with anybody last night.  As an example, I was in a hurri 2c and I got a p-51d into a turn fight on the deck.  By all rights the 51 should have been easy prey.  I ended up going 0-2 against him.  Not that wldthing is a slouch or anything, but a hurri 2c with altitude against a p51d on the deck in a turn fight should have been a bam-bam, thank you sir.  Instead it turned into a 5+minute duel 1-1 and I lost Sad  I do have to =S= wldthing! he kept that 51 in the air when my hurri was riding the stall all the way.

Other than that, it was a GV night last night.  Of course TeeRex was smoking them like the were little clay pigeons at a skeet shoot.

But seriously, is there anything that can speed up the learning curve of a new stick?

Question for the X45's -- how much dead-band and dampening do you typically use?  I was noticing in the GVs that the stick was very sensitive to the slight "wiggle" in the sticks center band.  I upped the deadband and dampening, but didn't see a real difference.  Also, do you typically have a linear progression of input (sliders in the AH setup) or do you max them all out so there is a 1 to 1 response?

I like using a lot of expo on my sticks, moreso on my rudder pedals. Deadband I usually leave at the smallest setting, theres no real reason to increase it on usb devices.

Other than that you just need to get use to it. I know when I got my ch setup it took about 2 weeks to really get used to it.

Don't sweat it forHIM. I understand... sometimes I feel the same way if I wanted to practice something like High Level Bombing or a Jabo attack.

wldthing is a VERY good pilot forHIM.  He has won KOTH several times.  Not much help with the X45, I use CH stuff. Sad

Agree with daddog, wldthing is a VERY good stick.

Nice guy also which is not always the case in AH.

Go back to basics, practise offline setting up tough situations on the drones.

Just switching from a twisty to rudder pedals can take some time.

Going from a twisty to a x45 is not likely to be easy.

Basicly you have to throw away all your old reflexs & programing & rebuild them.
Thats partly why I'm still flying on MS twisty sticks after 8 years.

I absolutely sucked after switching from a twist stick.  I would literally forget I had my feet on the rudder pedals.  I still have trouble lining up a shot sometimes and have move the damer and dead band sliders all over the map.

Does anyone here use CH Pro Pedals ... and if so can you take a screenie of your set up and post it (the one in AH with the Graph).

I use CH pedals, but have never "really" liked the way they worked for me.  I mean the pedals work great, I love CH products. The problem is it feels like I have to press about 1/3 of the way down before the pedals start to work.  Then the next 1/3 is where about 100% of the AC's reaction takes place. The last 1/3 of the motion is much like the first 1/3 not doing much.

I suppose I have to play with the dampers/sliders, but I never mess with that stuff.  Be happy to post my pic skernsk.

DD,

Check the sliders, not the damp/dead.  If you change the sliders to 100% then you should get a 1 to 1 response, at least that's the theory Smiley

Maybe slightly off topic, but I have CH pedals but actually rarely use them when flying.  I think I just have it in my head to not make the aircraft slip or slide because that'll cost airspeed.  Typicaly I just try and get my lift vector even with the enemy and rake him with bullets (walk my bullets onto him...I'm a lousy shot) or a quit hopeful snapshot when he crosses my gunsight.  I should pay more attn, but I honestly think I do little with rudders except for trying to slow down when landing.

here is a http://www.chproducts.com. I ordered my sticks right from them, and the pedals I ordered from another site (forget the name now). Its easier just ordering the sticks from them, unless you have a sotre nearby that carries them (I don't).

They also make industrial joysticks. The gaming sticks are pretty much bulletproof. I've stepped on my throttle twice and it still works (tho its a bit loose now).  I also like the fact that their sticks are made for an adult hand, the ms twisty stick I was using was much too small.

and let the other 5 go, all the while getting no opposition from the little

Cheesy
My pleasure! From here on out you will only get better.
Remember to open your doors before you calibrate, because the doors cause drag and will throw you off a bit.
