I have noticed a slight uptick in my discos... however I haven't played as much lately.  Nothing like what you say though.

Bison,
There were a load of probs coupla weeks ago for me - come to find out the brush fires in Ga and FL destroyed a lot of above ground telephone wire - Net traffic had to be rerouted - caused a load of packet loss and downright crappy I'net performance. Scuzzy also posted about an ISP (system3 I believe) who is actively marketing themselves to a buyer and apparently have oversubscribed clients (sold bandwidth they really don't have) in order to make their bottom line look better. Try a pingplot to HTC and see what's up - you can forward the pingplot to Scuzzy and he'll either confirm or refute the problem's on "your end".

Regards,

Just saw some stuff on htc boards.

Bison if you have XP SP2 open up a DOS prompt and type in
netsh winsock reset catalog
and hit enter.
Then reboot and try to play.

What this does is eliminate any 3rd party changes made to Winsock (Windows Networking Sockets packet handler).  Some programs like Google Desktop add LSP dll hooks to the winsock and it can mess things up.
Here's a technical explanation and some links to the issue: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/winsock.htm

Well first off bison hadn't power cycled his cable modem in like forever. Doing that got him back on the net able to get to web pages and download things.  Smiley

Then running an adaware scan and finding 42 critical objects and removing them took him back one more step to health.

He's got a ways to go yet, but hes starting to fight his way back and I think he's learning a few things in the process.  Smiley

I really like Spybot S&D.  Historically it has gotten all but the most insidious malware for me.

Hijackthis is great as long as you have the latest version.

Is that something I should try Dogma?

I have noticed in the last few months the connect for Jed and I has gone down hill. In general we can't do any furballs together any more. Too many warps on our end. With just a few AC around we are OK.

spybot and adaware together are great but you have to be careful not to remove microsoft files as it will jack up your activex controls and it makes life a pain.  I rip and rebuild all my systems once a year.  I think I've been disco'd 4 to 5 times in a year.  Last night was frustrating because I had planned to lead CD to some good positions then cover him and, hopefully, get him a kill or two and get home.  Ahhh well

I agree emphaticly with Dicho.

Each system running around here gets repartitioned or reformated install everything from scratch at least once a year.

Daddog, you running 2 phone lines now? One for your computer and one for household use?
If not why not?

Why not put Jeds system on his own modem on the household line?

No more ICS (yuck pewwie)

Obviously you wouldn't want him surfing on it all the time, but for fri nights it might solve a few problems.

This is interesting, I use both also, and have for a while. I've also had problems with activeX for quite some time. I can't update my router firmware or download Realplayer because of activeX problems. I guess I just never put the two together.

Still waiting on my joystick to arrive.............TCE
