Wow 2 kills n 2 assists. I'm really surprised.
That was A LOT of fun, guys. We clobbered them big time.
To the guys that didn't get any kills, do NOT feel bad about it. The majority of FSO events I've flown I don't get kills, many do not. It's not all about the kills. It's about doing the mission as a coordinated group, supporting and covering your squadmates and wingmen, and getting home in one piece.
We did a fantastic job at our assigned mission, which was escorting the 347th. They only lost 2 pilots to enemy action. The southern strike force did much worse. They lost at least 8 pilots from their LA-5 wing.
Plus we were in an outclassed, underarmed plane against foes that had E and alt on us from the get-go. The fact that we only lost 3 guys while killing 15 of them is a testament to our teamwork.
332nd ROCKS!

That's VERY true d0gma. I didn't realize I'd gotten mine till the logs showed up. I caught a 109 chasing 68 at 300 and tossed a couple of rounds at him hoping to get him to break. I shot behind on the first one and got to 200 in a left turn so I pulled tighter and threw 2 cannon rounds and some mg at him. Got a magic bullet from one of my cannons on his port wing and he went in. From my angle I thought he broke under me which was cool because the 68th guy got away. I'd say 90% of the missions I don't get anything more than an assist or two if I make it home at all. All of that babble said is it wrong that I'm kind of giddy about last night still?

That was a stellar night in the books for our squad. Those kind of frames don’t happen often, but they are ones to remember. Dogma is right. Everyone takes credit for that night. It is important you enjoy that you even survived. We had a member a couple years ago that flew for 3 months without surviving a Friday Squad Ops. I know I was cleared twice and once would have been dead for sure had someone not given me a check 6 when a 109 was on me and did not know it. I gave out several check 6 calls myself and forced one off of dogma. I also noted that simaril saved ASA over the field and took out a 109 that was about to kill him. I am sure there were many other saves that I did not see. Gents you did a great job. Here is a picture of my first kill. It was one that Ghosth and TeeeRex had been working on and he flew past me at just about a 90 degree angle. I turned and flew toward him at about his 2 O’clock. Let go with two 37mm rounds and the first hit dead center just below the cockpit. His plane blew and broke apart moments later. Not a shot I could repeat for years. Well done gents.

I told DD my wingman was dlf8rms, but he didn't buy it and made me look for rowdy -- unfortunately I wasn't such a good wingman as rowdy took a few hits and then went in.

I stayed with Harpa for the full flight to the enemy field, but lost sight of him (he was on my blind side) once we were engaged. I could tell he had had one too many since he couldn’t maintain a altitude, direction, or speed [ ]. I was able to come to the aid of daddog once and to another dog once, firing shots each time but missing – I hope that it at least gave the enemy pilot cause for concern. Thanks Simiral for swiping that bird off my tail, he had clobbered my plane prior to that. I got hit a second time as I was trying to return to base, and that one hit me personally. Bleeding badly (my wind shield had plenty of blood splatters and holes in it), I pointed my bird, at a slow auto-descent, toward our base, but kept passing out. At about 2000 feet altitude, during one of the short periods I regained consciousness, I leveled off and went auto-level toward our field before I passed out again. On my last conscious look I could just make out the field, but then I passed out for the final time and died. Darn, died within view of my goal and safety – my wounded bird and my dead body probably over-flew the field at 2000 feet. Great night, I really enjoyed it! In Pursuit,

I had fun too.
Flew around mostly looking threatening and making enemies break -- but tried to sacrifice energy too easily, threw lots of 6's around. We gradually worked down to the deck, and down there got a couple to break as well. We were getting ready to egress when I saw ASA off by himself getting chased by a G2. Closed up on the baddie pretty easily, but my shooting was crapola. ASA did a great job staying alive with that thing saddled on him while I tossed single shot after single shot....until I finally said "heck with it" and held the button down. Had 2 rounds left when the tail end of that 109 disappeared!
Only frustration was that my (lately) wonky connect problem showed up, and I discoed without being able to take her home. It would have been my FIRST ever completed FSO! Oh, well.....
A definite <S> to the Mongrels for a job well done.
My after action analysis report would go like this:
1. We were greatly helped by the enemy's willingness to commit piecemeal. If those enemies came in as a group instead of in 1s and 2s, we would have had a very different experience. We owe a major "THANKS" to the CO who set up the deception radar raids!
2. We did an excellent job of group SA. Plenty of check 6s, and and cooperative clearing!
3. We had excellent teamwork, with informal "loose deuce" tactics. Nothing like good cooperative attacks -- like when one mongrel would make a run on an enemy, but the Mongrel left the kill for a better positioned squadmate once the enemy broke . That meant that we didn't all blow our position/energy on the first few targets, and we were positioned to have excellent force available for later attackers.
4. We acted like true escorts, whether accidentally or on purpose. We didn't let anyone dive in on the guys attacking the base unmolested (maybe they didnt see them?)....and by the time they tried to engage the La5s, the axis was both whittled down and too late to make a difference.
For the future "group SA" is probably the number one lesson, with cooperative attacking (don't all chase the same target, leave the kill to the guy with best position even if you started the attack) close behind.
