Dicho, partly it depends on what your looking for.
Most times I get involved with stick scaling with someone its because their stick is so sensitive they can't fly with it.
If your not having that problem you may not need to go there at all. OR, you could go very proactive on scaling, and use an upward curve to max out your control responses.
Default scaling is an upward stairstep 0 - 9 each step a bit above the one before it and the last step at the top.
In effect, this mean you can only get true 100% control deflection by pulling the stick ALL the way back.
If the stick is sensitive, we use a "LOW" Curve, like a piece of rope. Its not a straight line, we start out lower, and step up much smaller until past the halfway mark. Then make big steps at the end in order to reach the top, or max input.
If you want to max out your control, you'd want a HIGH curve. Some start scaling half way up, or higher, depends on exactly where on your stick you want things to really start happening. At any rate you want to curve UP quickly.
This is going to max your control, allowing you max imput to your plane without having to pull the stick full back. However it takes a smooth hand to fly.
Then of course you have the hard core purists who set scaling at the top across the board.
This can make it almost impossible for the average person to fly. However, if you master this, you'll have quicker reverses, snapper rolls, and faster responses than most of those you run across. I do NOT recomend this unless you have CH Gear, are flying at least a couple hours a day, and have your current settings backed up so you can restore them. If your looking for that last edge in dueling, this might be it, but take it at your own risk.
btw if you wanted to try akak's settings.
