Americas Army has released 2.7 version.

from one of the announcements:

The long awaited America's Army: Special Forces ("Overmatch") v2.7 has been officially released.
Click "read more" and read the press release issued covering the biggest America's Army distribution yet!!

West Point, N.Y., September 14, 2006 - The U.S. Army today launched the America's Army: Special Forces (Overmatch) game, marking the 22d update to the America's Army PC series and the third major release of America's Army focused upon the central role Special Forces play in the Global War on Terrorism. America's Army: Special Forces (Overmatch) also marks the launch of the America's Army Real Heroes Program in which the U.S. Army provides America's Army players insights into the accomplishments of Soldiers who have distinguished themselves in combat and earned citations for bravery and valor. The Army's exceptionally popular computer game, America's Army, along with a new line of Real Heroes action figures, will feature these heroic Soldiers and highlight the actions for which they were awarded citations for valor. America's Army: Special Forces (Overmatch) can be downloaded at .

America's Army: Special Forces (Overmatch) also includes:

    * Missions featuring cooperative gameplay against Artificial Intelligence in which players experience the overmatch capabilities that the U.S. Army brings to the battlefield to engage and defeat much larger hostile forces.
    * A "record brief" for each player, replicating the records maintained for each Soldier in the Army. Annotations in this "record brief" document players' successful completion of in-game training from medic to Special Forces and summarize their game play history and performance.
    * The opportunity to train and employ new weapons systems including the Javelin Missile and the CROWS.
    * New vehicles, controlled by players and Opposing Forces (Enemy AI), which enhance the mobility, survivability, and firepower of combat teams.

Introduction of Real Heroes into the online world of America's Army provides players with concrete examples of how Soldiers from across America make profound contributions in the defense of freedom and how their contributions have fundamentally shaped their personal development. America's Army Real Heroes uses videos on the America's Army website (www.americasarmy.com) to recount the circumstances and actions in which Army heroes were decorated for valor in the Global War on Terrorism. These Soldiers will also be presented as interactive characters in training missions throughout the game and in an interactive Virtual Recruiting Center. In addition, Real Heroes will be highlighted on the official U.S. Army site (www.goarmy.com) and as collectable action figures available at major retail outlets in the coming months.

"The America's Army Real Heroes program puts a face on some of the exceptional Soldiers who are at the forefront in defending our freedoms. With Real Heroes young adults can learn about the accomplishments of some of the heroic men and women that make the Army the world's premier land force," said Colonel Casey Wardynski, Project Director for America's Army.

The America's Army Real Heroes are but a few of the Soldiers in today's Army who have exhibited exceptional gallantry and bravery. America's Army Real Heroes have earned some of the nation's highest awards for valor including the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, and Bronze Star for Valor. They are emblematic of the more than 1,700 Army heroes who have earned such awards for action in the Global War on Terrorism. These Soldiers embody the Warrior Ethos - a Soldier will always place the mission first, never accept defeat, never quit, and never leave a fallen comrade.

The Soldiers who comprise the initial cadre of Real Heroes include:

    * Staff Sergeant Timothy Nein, 503d Military Police Battalion, Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
    * Sergeant Tommy Riemen, 51st Long Range Surveillance Infantry (Airborne), Silver Star for heroism in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
    * Sergeant First Class Gerald Wolford, 82nd Airborne, Silver Star for heroism in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
    * Sergeant Matthew Zedwick, 2-162 Infantry, Silver Star for heroism in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
    * Sergeant Leigh Hester, 503d Military Police Battalion, Silver Star for heroism in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
    * Sergeant Jason Mike, 503d Military Police Battalion, Silver Star for valor in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
    * Master Sergeant Scott Neil, 5th Special Forces Group, Bronze Star for valor in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
    * Major Jason Amerine, 5th Special Forces Group, Bronze Star for valor for in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

More info found at http://www.americasarmy.com/intel/features.php

Learn how to employ the Army's first true "Fire and Forget" Anti-Armor weapon: The Javelin. America's Army presents players with an immersive training exercise based on the America's Army powered training simulator, the Javelin Basic Skills Trainer, or BST. Players will be instructed to properly assemble, identify and engage hostile enemy targets in a variety of battlefield conditions. Javelin qualification is the first America's Army training to be set "Outside the Continental United States" (OCONUS) and accurately depicts a modern Army Tent City facility.

As the Javelin is a heavy weapon (over 60lbs) player movement will be restricted when deploying the Javelin; additionally players may only carry a single Javelin tube at a time, though non-qualified players can support the mission by selecting to carry spare Javelin tubes, allowing the Javelin to be reloaded. This idea of a "loader" buddy system is a first for America's Army.

----

The first fully-drivable vehicle in America's Army is also one of the newest platforms in the U.S. Army inventory: The M1114 Up-Armored HMMWV with Common-Remotely-Operated-Weapon-System (CROWS). Players will earn the "Driver's Badge", visible in their Record Brief, by completing two short training exercises in order to safely operate the M1114 Up-Armored HMMWV and the CROWS (either an M2 .50cal MG or the MK19 40mm grenade launcher). You must successfully complete both the driver and gunnery training courses to be qualified to operate either in America's Army.

The CROWS is operated via a Weapons Console located behind the driver position. Players will learn employ the Laser Ranging System and 12x zoom in order to accurately place ordnance on enemy positions and targets.

Although well armored, the CROWS HMMWV is not indestructible, and can sustain damage to the tires, engine, 50mm/MK19 weapon and chassis. Players also need to be careful not to damage the HMMWV through reckless driving. Despite the depth of the CROWS simulation we think players will find this a relatively easy and highly compelling new aspect of America's Army gameplay.

---

The entire America's Army interface has been revised to be more concise and visually interesting. The new Record Brief enhances the Personnel Jacket to include Skill Badges, M4A1 Weapon Mods, Dynamically Updated News, and a Player Stats section including over 40 different game play statistics so you can evaluate every aspect of your America's Army experience.

The "Badges" section of the Record Brief will display actual Army Skill Badges, which actual Soldiers earn upon completing the various types of training offered in America's Army. These include the: Rifle Marksmanship Badge, the Expert Field Medical Badge, Airborne Wings, Driver's Badge, the Expert Infantryman's Badge (EIB) and the Special Forces "Di Oppresso Liber" distinctive crest insignia.

Dynamic Content Delivery System (DCDS) is another new feature in America's Army. DCDS will allow us to add new content and update existing content at any time, which means maps and gameplay changes can be provided with greater frequency than was possible in the past.

more on the link -- looks like fun for those who do this.

Tell you what forHim, even though I had a bad experience with AA a couple of years ago, if you wouldn't mind my tagging along with you I'll give this game another chance; deal?

Peace,

deal.  Once the ground freezes up north we'll have skernsk and maybe argyll on as well.  I'll also introduce you to some right and left coasters who were made for each other who like to play on cheat servers (they host their own game server so play with full weapons / cheat codes).

Good! Except for the full weapons/cheat code thing; Remember, I'm the one that liked the realism and team tactics potential for the game - fair enough?

I'll have to down load the new version, and hopefully they still have my account/log-on still active (if not, I'll get it re-started - darn, hope I won't have to go through all that training again; I was airborne, medic, sniper, and Ranger qualified for AA before.)

FYI: If you have it, I do have Team Speak; plus, I can be the TS server/host.

Always Vigilant,

P.S. I'll PM you soon with some contact info.

Downloading it now forHIM.

ASA, the gang we hook up with usually has sides of 4-6 each.  We play cheats enabled in order to have any weapon enabled.  It works great and is a 'fun' server nobody takes it too seriously.  I have been laughed at so much on TS playing this game - it is a riot.

I'll get Argyll squared away......

The DL took me 5 hours on a cable modem.  Best I got was around 192 KB/s.  I refuse to pay for access to the high speed sites.  I found one when I originally downloaded the game that was around 500 KBps but with the update growing by 3x it and it being the first day available, I can see why the popular sites were busy.

I imagine that the torrent networks should have it up and available today.

I'm going to wait a few days before trying to DL this version (again). I'm not patient enough to wait 3 - 5 hours for the DL.

I'll get back with y'all then.

Peace,

shot last night with Sim and the boys -- was a blast.  The new engine has coop capabilites and the AI is wicked.  It tooks us 2 hours to complete / beat on of the maps on realtively dumb AI.  Another map we only got 2 of 4 objectives before dieing.

Daddog -- This is something that you and jed could play offline.  Granted it would only be the two of you against a platoon size oppistiion force.  Do you want me to burn the DVD and send it to you?

Skernsk -- you get a non-corrupt download of this yet?

I'm up and running.  I used a user name and password of another player for one of them 'pay sites'.  Even with that is was downloading at a whopping 134kB/sec and took several hours.

I finished the new training and have to 'tweak' my keys a bit.  Perhaps in a few days I will be ready to go online.

Not sure -- I've only played as a player on the coop servers.  MGD, ROC, or SIM would be able to fully explain the server setup.  I can ask them and relay the info back to you.  If you'd like.  I know you can adjust the level of AI on the opposition force, so you could reduce the defaults down to something manageable.

There are a couple of helps online for the easier ways to get through the SF training.  (The one that took me forever to get through).

Shout if you get stuck on any places.  Also if you watch the real heroes videos/ read the bios from the game it gives you some credit towards higher honor, but I'd wait until you got to 10 - 15 honor before doing that since it is 3% of your honor pts.

Finally got it fully loaded!

I completed ALL (and I mean ALL) of the training in a few hours. I can be/use anything!  evil1

(OK, I’m bragging now  toothy9)

39/40 with the M16A2 on 1st (and only) attempt.  Cheesy

1st time go with all other weapons in BCT - 15/15 with M9, 17/18 with M249, hit with the 1st qualification 40mm grenade, AT-4, and BDM.  Cheesy

MOUT took me three tries though. I had a tough time separating the enemy from others at first - they all looked like targets of opportunity to me  evil.

One jump (both tower and live) for Airborne qualification.  angel10

SF took four tries! Got to point “A” and “B” easily enough on the 1st attempt, but “C” proved to be the problem - he he he, gotta beat the light  Cool.

The HMMV was a pain to drive, two tries (good thing it has a reverse)  tongue5.

All other qualifications were gotten on 1st attempts (Love that Javelin!  icon_biggrin)

OK, I’m ready to try a game. Just let me know when and how.

In Pursuit,

Sunking -- I usually play on a private server with Sim, MGD, ROC, and a few others from the Ghost Squad.  When online, I usually play a few of the popular servers that have an active admin staff and a good set of rules.

The new coop maps will help with the cheats / hacks, but they will still be there.  I've had an IF player come up and "heal" me.  I've seen some blatant cheats, but punk buster has usually removed those players in about 5 minutes.
