Carbheat & I have worked out a date Wed night for some training.

Anyone that would care to join us would be welcome.
I think we will be looking at 7-8 oclock but still nailing down the time.

This would be a good chance to work on your acm as well as some gunnery & other issues.
If needed we can even do a quick bombing seminar.

The time, 7 to 8 pm EST, is fine.  Will see you then Ghosth, TCE and others?

And thanks Ghosth.  Donating VGT to help the mop brigade is greatly appreciated.    Oh...VGT...valuable game time.....

What I would like but sure cant be covered in an hour

1) Defensive - learn a few moves to shake someone equal E off my six.

2) Offensive - how to aim - where to aim - when/why to adjust gun convergence...  I seem to have a picture in my gun sights that I expect to result in hits.  But I always miss way more than seems right.  Are there any exercises to practice?  Maybe I need to learn to adjust for lag?

3) Manuvers - I will review the training films from the welcome newsletter before the event.  Some I have figurred out and just need practice.  Some...well...the stick and rudder combo have me confused.  I often practice barrel rolls going to a fight.  Are there other manuvers to practice?

4) Wingman flying.  What is expected....how to coordinate attacks...how to provide cover.  Last Friday I tried to stay high until my Lead picked up a bandit on his 6 before diving into the furball...that seems good practice...but after that?

5) I do most of my flying in a Spit Mk IX.  Is this the best platform for now?  I use the B110 for a heavy fighter for cannon, the F4U from a carrier and B24's for level bombing.  These ok for beginning to learn?

All the things that Carb listed are a great start. The only thing I would like to add is merges. I guess I don't really know what I'm doing. With the spit, my mistakes are easier to recover from. Get me in somethng that doesn't turn well and I'm toast. (DD, ignore this last sentence if we ever meet in the DA!! Wink )

FYI anyone who wants to know about merges needs to do his homework.

www.netaces.org

Also don't miss soda's AC pages. Netaces has a link to them near the bottom.

Carb that looks like a good list for starters. Bring it with!

Although I have to say I'm not the experten at teaching wingman tatics.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there.

Carb best defense move IMHO is the "lag roll" ? ( I might have the name wrong) .. Enemy dives or gains on your 6 with speed,  you go into a upwards roll and corkscrew , as you roll out and come back where you started you should have a 4 sec window to pull up on con as he flies right by and blast his 6 as he tries to go back up or dive away.  I use this in the Spits, N1k1 , Hurri, Zeros.. its an awesome move once you get it down. Ask Ghosth to work with you on that.

Ghosth - what a great training session.   I learned a lot.. :ban: ..I also learned I got a lot to learn :furious: .  Can't wait until next week.  Thanks for your time.

I thought about my flying off line.  Besides learning how to keep my opponent in sight, I think I uncovered an issue.    I did the following on every merge we started.  At the beginning of the merge, I understood the shallow dive to get under the bandit's nose to get velocity up so you can complete your immelman before the bandit.  I was even able to fly that manuver.  I always stumbled on the next move.  At the second pass, I always tried to do a another immelman - after all, it is what you do on the first pass...right?  But now my velocity is low and I am still vertical while the bandit has managed to complete their turn and begin to accelerate back at me.  I was always struggling to avoid a guns solution after the second pass.  Not a good position to be in.  Maybe I need to do a wing over or someother move at the second pass to get my nose towards the bandit quicker?

BTW I am not sure how to fly a wing over.  Maybe I do and just dont know I know also

Daddog...you missed a great lesson.  Ghosth had me join his plane as he was "teaching" TCE.   I was free to concentrate on keeping the "BANDIT" in sight and got to watch how "easy" it should be to fly these planes.  All I can say is I need to practice practice practice.  But I know there are times when you gotta do what you gotta do.

Anyways...thanks again for your time Ghosth.  I had a blast.  I know TCE did also.
