Lots of interesting articles about WinXP. Might come in handy if you ever run into any XP weirdness or need some help with XP.

Daddog, could you please pin this? Thanks.

http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

For those of you who do not know how to get your system down to 20, 22 processes.
This is a very simple, safe, easy to understand program that you can use to do the same thing.
This will close down any unneeded processes,  get your computer ready for some serious work just before you start AH.
Then with a touch of a button, when your done flying, you get it all back again.

Took my brand new os with 30 processes and trimmed it to 22.
Asked for and got permision to shut down skype, threatfire, antivirus, etc.

In short, if you are not an expert, grab this. You'll find it helps a lot.
Also if you take a screen shot of processes running before and after it, you'll see whats safe to get rid of and what needs to stick around.  Smiley

And if game booster isn't enough, try this.
I highly recomend this set of utilities for everyone.
Best of all, both are absolutely free.

So I would have to tell it which programs to shut down? Thats where I just get totally lost. I know I have around 55-60 processes running at an given time with Vista. I seem to be able to run AH just fine, but then how would I really know, right?

Is it a download and go type program or does it require certian or special directions or knowledege to install, setup, and run? I know, too many questions, but my luck is usually bad with these types of programming things.

No, you wouldn't have to tell it what to shut down.
It knows whats safe to shut down and what isn't.

Let me see if I can explain this better.

I install game booster, then double click the icon to start it.
It pops up a window, In that window is a list of things it will shut down.
Stuff like Unnecessary Services, Application layer gateway service, automatic updates, background intelligent transfer service, and the list goes on. All these are checked, by default, all will be shut down, none should crash your machine, or cause any problems.

I click on the big button that says "switch to gaming mode"
It pops up one more window of background programs.
Now for me, I have tftray (threatfire for virus dection) Skype. and a NMbgmonitor, which I can see by its command line is a part of Nero burning software.
3 programs, 3 lines, all checked by default, If you say close it will close them, when you quit flying it will restart them.

You need to know NOTHING!

Thats why I gave this a push. Good program, dead simple, anyone can operate.
Fsautostart you need to know what you can close or not close. Aclaritypc same situation, takes more to get it setup.
This, dead simple, leave everthing checked, shut it all down. Once its down, start ventrillo, go fly.

I've used Game Booster for few weeks now, and I have a feeling it has helped my stone-aged computer a lot staying on the line of AH-duty  thumbsup

Cheers!
