I cut and pasted this from a thread in the Squad Ops forum. Sled is the fellow who pointed out the below information for me. I can see it would really help.  Smiley

I'm referring to an adjustment that you make in the plane while you are flying. While in the air use Shift-F1, Shift-F2, Shift-F3, and Shift-F4, to select between Short, Med., Full, and Ground Vis. range. You may have to check your keyboard map to make sure it is programmed that way. I didn’t know about this until about a month ago. I had been flying around on Short vis. range the whole time wondering why I could not see Bandits as soon as my Squad mates also my transitions at the horizon was like yours, very abrupt. I now fly in Med. vis. Range and have Horizon transitions like Dux, plus better range spotting Bandits.

You bet DD, Glad I could help.

I mapped three of the buttons ( Short, Med, and Ground Vis. ranges) to my JS (X45) That way I can select between the three depending on the situation. When I am diving on a GV I go to Ground Vis. so I can see him sooner in the dive, then back to Med. Vis. for ACM. If I get into a BIG furball, I'll go to Short Vis. to keep my frame rates up. You'll notice that the three settings have big impact on your FPS.

Curious if this is the same as adjusting the graphics detail under video settings?

It's not.  The slider controls how far the objects draw -- when I'm in shift F1, I can still see the terrain fill in below me at a 5 mile radius.  The short/med/full/ground settings also affect the terrain itself ( and not just detail), so in GV mode, the hills get lopped off.  Same with short range.  If you go short range, make sure you know where the mountains are or else you could attempt to fly over what looks to you a small hill and find that it is really a mountain.

Sorry I've never thought about this. I switch between them constantly.

Short range for spotting CV's. (Yes they show up sooner/easier to spot on the horizon)

Med range for most flying.

Long for picking up low cons that are hard to see.

I just started switching my views. It really helps.
Normal Shift F2 - Mid range (what my default setting is)
Far Shift F1 - High level  buff runs
Close Shift F3 - Furballing
Ground objects Shift F4 - Attacking ground targets
