My computer died sometime sat evening. No clue as to why or what happened.

Walked away from it to do supper, when I came back it was down, hitting the power button spun fans up for maybe 2 seconds, then down again.

Tried new power supply, same scenario but spins fans for 5 seconds.

Waited till tues morning with window open, machine is about 50 degrees F.

Fans spun up for maybe 20 seconds then down again.
What died?

AMD XP 2000 (1.67ghz) on
Abit KD7-E mboard.
256k pc 2700 ram
ATI 9000 pro 128mb video
WD 80 gig 8mb buffer Hard drive
Liteon 48x burner

Ideas anyone?

Ouch.

Are you sure the CPU fan is running upon boot-up? If it's not, maybe the CPU is over-heating. I know some MB's have overheating protection for the CPU by shutting itself off.

Also, try re-seating the CPU in the socket. I installed a new CPU cooler last week in my system, and when I turned it on, nothing! Went back and in and nothing looked obviously wrong. So, I undid the CPU level and re-seated the CPU, and that solved my problem.

Not saying that'll fix your problem, but it's worth a shot!

Prayer Requests Forum?

Sorry, long week.

J/K... Try the AH forum. Remember when Ammo was calling us? I bet it's an EZ fix.

When I have a computer problem, my fix is calling Ghosth. He lets me ramble for several minutes until I talk the problem out loud and the light bulb my my fire baked brain blinks on.   huh

I'm afraid there is no easy fix for this one.

Looks like a new main board is in order, or it could be CPU.

Talking with the folks from Mwave.com where I bought it.
They are suggesting all the things I've already done.  Sad

Good news is I'm back up on its twin (Wifes machine) GOOD call on that one. Smiley
